Mrs. Bahnson’s Classroom Newsletter Week of April 29th - May 3rd, 2024 Math * We finished up with Chapter 11 (Angles) and will be TESTING on Tuesday, April 30th! Students should have brought home a study guide & a practice test last Friday (26th), and we will also do some review problems on Monday. * Our next and LAST chapter is all about Measurement! We will start off learning about the Customary System of Measurement. We will learn about using customary units to measure length/distance, weight, and capacity:) Reading * We just started a new novel/chapter book called The Watsons go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This is a great book that focuses on the issue on racism (in the south) in the 1960's (in America). As I mentioned, this is a GREAT book that has a lot of humor in it, but it does tackle some pretty serious issues (racism, poverty, bullying), so I will always be reading the chapters aloud to the students, and we will be doing a lot of discussion before, during & after each chapter:) Spelling * The spelling pretest is on Tuesday, the worksheet is due on Wednesday, and the final test is on Friday. |
Science * Students are in groups learning about some of our BODY SYSTEMS! They are putting together a Google Slides presentation and creating a poster that they can use to "teach" the rest of the class about their system. The 6 systems that we are focusing on are: Nervous, Respiratory, Circulatory, Digestive, Skeletal & Muscular. * Our next and LAST chapter will be all about "Information Processing and Transfer." Social Studies * Please remember if you have any questions regarding this subject, you should contact Mr. Kippley directly.
Writing/Grammar * Please remember if you have any questions regarding this subject, you should contact Ms. Erickson directly.
Other Information * Happy birthday to Delaynie Rice on April 30th and to the following people in May: Jayleen Leanos (May 1st), Kobe Teunissen (May 8th) & Locklan Heyden (May 10th). * Looking ahead - Our 4th Grade STATE FAIR is scheduled for Monday, May 13th, from 2:00-3:00. This will be a "come-and-go" event so you can show up anytime (but I would suggest coming before 2:30 because we let the students "wander" around to their classmates' displays after that time). * Every month, students will have an RC goal. Students who get their monthly goal will get a Pizza Ranch certificate and be eligible for Student of the Month. The "regular" goal for May is 10 RC points (8 for students in Mrs. Bakker's, Mrs. Van Velzen's or Mrs. Smith's rooms). |
