Mrs. Bahnson’s Classroom Newsletter Week of April 22nd-26th, 2024 Math * We are working our way through Chapter 11 which is all about ANGLES! This week students will learn how to use a protractor to measure and draw different kinds of angles. We will also look at how to find measurements when we join and separate angles. This is a really short chapter, so we will probably be finishing up this week already:) Reading * We just started a new novel/chapter book called The Watsons go to Birmingham - 1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis. This is a great book that focuses on the issue on racism (in the south) in the 1960's (in America). As I mentioned, this is a GREAT book that has a lot of humor in it, but it does tackle some pretty serious issues (racism, poverty, bullying), so I will always be reading the chapters aloud to the students, and we will be doing a lot of discussion before, during & after each chapter:) Spelling * The spelling pretest is on Tuesday, the worksheet is due on Wednesday, and the final test is on Friday. |
Science * This week we are working on researching natural disasters from our states (for our State Fair projects), and students will also be working in groups to research one the body systems. Social Studies * Please remember if you have any questions regarding this subject, you should contact Mr. Kippley directly.
Writing/Grammar * Please remember if you have any questions regarding this subject, you should contact Ms. Erickson directly.
Other Information * Happy birthday in April to Nora Hanisch (April 16th) and Delaynie Rice (April 30th). * Looking ahead - Our 4th Grade STATE FAIR is scheduled for Monday, May 13th, from 2:00-3:00. This will be a "come-and-go" event so you can show up anytime (but I would suggest coming before 2:30 because we let the students "wander" around to their classmates' displays after that time). * Every month, students will have an RC goal. Students who get their monthly goal will get a Pizza Ranch certificate and be eligible for Student of the Month. The "regular" goal for April is 15 RC points (13 for students in Mrs. Bakker's, Mrs. Van Velzen's or Mrs. Smith's rooms). |
